🇦🇪 UAE Tip: Always apply a minimum of two layers of bituminous membrane on UAE flat roofs — single layer is insufficient for the extreme thermal cycling. Protect the membrane immediately after installation with screed or insulation board before trades walk on it. For basements in UAE coastal areas with high water table, use a combination of crystalline admixture in the concrete and external tanking membrane.
The Formula Explained
Base Area = Length x Width. Upstand Area = Perimeter x Upstand Height. Net Area = Base plus Upstand. Area with Laps = Net Area x Lap Factor (1.10 to 1.20 depending on system). Primer = Area x Primer Rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many layers of waterproofing for UAE roofs?
Minimum 2 layers of SBS or APP bituminous membrane for UAE flat roofs. The extreme temperature range (0 to 70 degrees C surface temperature) requires the elasticity of SBS-modified membranes.
What waterproofing for UAE bathrooms?
Cementitious flexible coating (2 coats) is standard for UAE residential bathrooms applied to walls to 300mm above finished floor level and full floor coverage. For wet rooms, use liquid applied membrane with reinforcing fabric at all changes of plane.
Is a waterproofing warranty required in UAE?
Dubai Municipality requires a 10-year waterproofing warranty on all new buildings. Ensure your waterproofing contractor and material manufacturer provide written warranties.
